Interstitial Lung Disease & Pulmonary Hypertension Center – King Saud University Medical City

Introduction:
The Interstitial Lung Disease & Pulmonary Hypertension Center is made of a multidisciplinary team for patients with pulmonary fibrosis and pulmonary hypertension. Our team comprises a group of highly dedicated multidisciplinary physicians ( ILD specialist, Chest radiologist, Pathologist, Thoracic surgeons and Rheumatologist ), nurses and support staff who apply state-of-the-art, comprehensive and prompt evaluations and treatment recommendations. The mission of ILD & PH center is to train and monitor future pulmonologists and associated health care providers who are involved in the care of patients with ILD, our center will host the first preceptorship course in interstitial lung disease.

What is the goal of the preceptorship?
It is a two-day course where participants will have the unique opportunity to be involved in the activities of the ILD and PH Center. It will include among others, participation in the multidisciplinary ILD meeting, outpatient ILD clinic visits, tour of the facilities, teaching activities and attending the IPF Forum with PH associated ILD. At the end of the course, participants will be able to gain some insights on how to diagnose and manage ILD and when to refer such cases to expert center.

Who should attend?
Pulmonologists with interest and some knowledge in interstitial lung disease. The preceptorship will allow participants to gain an insight as to how the center operates as well as meet other colleagues with similar interest.

The preceptorship course is limited to 4 participants. This will allow maximum learning and open discussion. During the course, participants are encouraged to bring cases from their own clinic experience. They will then have the unique opportunity to have their patient case studies discussed in the multidisciplinary ILD meeting.

When?
The preceptorship course in ILD will take place on the 27ᵗʰ to 28ᵗʰ of February 2020. It will comprise a 2 day course of specialized clinical training and scientific discussion. It will culminate in the annual Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) Forum on 28ᵗʰ of February 2020.

Where?
The preceptorship course will be conducted in the Interstitial Lung Disease and Pulmonary Hypertension Center, King Saud University Medical City, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It is the first and only one of its kind in the Kingdom and Gulf Region. Established since 2008, we have become the foremost referral center for Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD). A total of 1200 interstitial lung cases have been examined and efficiently diagnosed through specific plans of action by the center through multidisciplinary ILD meetings conducted twice a month. Various cases are discussed and evaluated by physicians who come from varying specialties (pulmonology, radiology, pathology, thoracic surgery, and rheumatology). Moreover, our physicians are highly experienced in prescribing and managing drug therapy, including nintedanib and pirfenidone for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis patients while simultaneously experienced with immunomodulatory and biological therapies for sarcoidosis and autoimmune lung diseases.
